The iPad 2 Back Light Bleed Defect

My iPad 2 back bleeds, it breaks my heart. But that won't stop me from buying an iPad 3. Call me a consumer zombie, but I easily fall for gadgets like these. After reading some tweets about the backlit defect, I started going through every pore and pixel of my tablet and bazinga! I got the same thing! Maybe its something as banal like a wart, an ugly imperfection on a perfectly good piece of tech. Notice the misting on the sides, you can see the backlight go through the screen.

As these sought after Apples don't grow on trees and almost cost me my kidneys to get one, I took my iPad 2 back and demanded a replacement. Or else, really, I'm digging up Steve Jobs' bones!

They didn't have any in stock as expected, so I'll weather the wait for about a week. Hopefully, the next one I get won't have any bleed defect. May the odds be in my favor.

  1. "It’s unbelievable that something as hi-tech and prestigious as an apple product would have a flaw. But of course, all electronic devices have their own inadequacies at times.
After researching about this backlight bleeding issue, several tech sites stated a very simple solution -- adjust the brightness of your screen. Come to think of it, the backlight bleeding isn’t really such a big deal. You see, the issue here has nothing to do with the functionality of the product or its features; however, for the price you shell out for an Ipad2 – you certainly expect it to be perfect.

  2. No offense, but sometimes people tend to exaggerate when it comes to their tech stuff. It’s like they are so quick to criticize and obsess to find everything wrong with something already so good. There will never be any perfect technology, and minor flaws like backlight bleeding can just be ignored. Of course I believe that you should complain if the defect renders the product unusable, or if it causes inconvenience. But something like backlight bleeding does not really prevent anyone from enjoying the mind blowing functionalities of an iPad.

  3. I have the bleed defect as well in my iPad and I just totally ignored it. You won't really notice it unless you use it in a very dark room. But who uses their iPad with all the lights off anyway? People, don't make mountains out of mole hills. The iPad rocks, and is THE only tablet ever.
